 unmanned ground vehicle

Northrop Grumman's heritage in unmanned ground systems began with the challenges encountered by UK MoD Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) personnel in addressing the terrorist threat in the early 1970s. From very simple beginnings, the first Wheelbarrow bomb disposal vehicles were developed and have evolved with advances in technology offering increased capability to the EOD operator. The Wheelbarrow has now developed to Revolution, and is regarded by EOD specialists’ world-wide as the most capable and reliable unmanned vehicle available.

Wheelbarrow today - Reach and Payload capability at a distance

Today, Wheelbarrow is in service throughout the world in the most demanding of operating scenarios. The vehicle is unmatched for its combination of speed, dexterity, reach and payload capabilities. As the supplier of generic tele-operated systems to the EOD community we bring unique field experience and realism in terms of manufacturing practicalities.

We are an ISO9000:2000 Company.  Wheelbarrow is universally recognised as the benchmark when considering vehicles for Remote Improvised Explosive Device disposal. Our vehicles are now also designed for other applications in industrial, nuclear and security environments.

As the key supplier to the US Military Joint EOD Services, the sole supplier to the UK MoD for this size of vehicle, and as a partner to Police and military organisations world-wide, REMOTEC Inc and REMOTEC UK have a total of nearly 2000 unmanned vehicles in operation. For every customer, optimum whole-life costs are assured by the availability of comprehensive training and product support packages.

The Future

Wheelbarrow remains the product of choice across the world and there is considerable work underway to develop its capability still further.  We continue at the same time to invest in other product development activity. This was demonstrated in December 2006 when, after a long and competitive exercise, we were awarded the contract to deliver the new fleet of EOD vehicles to the UK MoD.   This programme sealed REMOTEC UK’s reputation as the benchmark for remote bomb disposal operations, as it has been now for more than twenty years.

The pre-production phase robot is already generating interest from several locations across the world, and has been received enthusiastically during comprehensive customer trials. This project is one of a number that are helping us move forwards in the unmanned vehicle arena.

We have a range of vehicles and equipment specifically configured for EOD, Surveillance, HazMat and CBRN professionals, building upon our experience in delivering over 2000 unmanned vehicles world wide.

We set the standard for performance and specification. Our vehicles enable your professionals to take considered decisions at a distance. They enhance the functionality of your team by turning the unexpected into a known quantity.
